Crews Complete Spring Bulk Waste Collection

Post Date:05/11/2018 11:22 AM

BLOOMINGTON, IL – City of Bloomington Public Works Department crews finished collecting bulk waste for the 2018 Spring Bulk Waste Collection Thursday, May 10. The Department would like to thank all of its employees for their contributions to this effort. The collection, which began May 1, 2018, is the beginning of a shift from picking up bulk waste every other week to twice per year (spring and fall). The spring and fall bulk waste collections are offered at no extra charge to users of the City’s Solid Waste Program.

Those who did not place items at the curb by the deadline have the option of taking items to the Citizen Convenience Center at no additional charge or requesting a pickup at a cost of $25 per bucket (about 2.5 cubic yards).

The Citizen Convenience Center is located at the corner of East Street and Jackson Street, south of the Bloomington Public Library. The hours of operation through Memorial Day are 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Friday and 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturdays. Beginning the day after Memorial Day, the hours will be 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Friday with the same hours on Saturdays. The center is closed on Sundays and municipal holidays. Entrance gates close 15 minutes early.

To request a pickup, Solid Waste Program users can use MyBloomington, available on the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and at www.cityblm.org/mybloomington. To find the request type, users can search “Bulk Waste Pickup" within MyBloomington.

The 2018 Fall Bulk Waste Collection will take place on October 1, 2018. Additional information on the fall collection will be released closer to the start date. The Department will use the first two collection periods to better understand how the schedule will work in future years. Each bulk waste collection period will create a learning experience as waste disposal and recycling changes over the years.

Brush collection will continue to take place every other week on non-recycle weeks. City crews will begin regularly-scheduled brush pickup May 11. A personalized collection calendar for all types of solid waste is available on Recycle Coach, which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Recycle Coach can also be viewed at www.recyclebn.org.
