Bloomington Police Department 2018 Awards

We would like to thank the following officers, telecommunicators, and a retired investigator for their outstanding service.

Investigator Charlie Crowe - Meritorious Service Award

Investigator Charlie Crowe officially retired on January 1, 2018 from the Bloomington Police Department after 52+ years of service.  Investigator Crowe began his career with BPD on November 21, 1966 and worked most of his career as a Detective, retiring from that position on June 20, 1997 after 30+ years of service. 

Investigator Crowe then accepted the position as one of the first background investigators for the City of Bloomington.  Investigator Crowe, along with Investigator Gene Irvin, worked together and created a formal process for completing background investigations.  Over the past 21 years, Investigator Crowe has worked and trained others to continue providing complete and professional backgrounds on countless BPD employees and Bloomington Fire Department applicants.

Officer Jared Johnson – Meritorious Service Award

Officer Johnson’s outstanding street level investigations led to multiple suspects arrested for weapon violations.

Officers Curt Squires, Jacob Law, Pedro Diaz, and Anna Legner - Life Saving Commendation

Officers Curt Squires, Jacob Law, Pedro Diaz, and Anna Legner applied lifesaving actions in three separate incidents which resulted in saving the lives of three men.

Telecommunicators Lindsay Schumm, Bobbie Jo Smith, Kacey Pettit, Addison Jepsen, and Amanda Zook. Officers David Quinn, Robert McKinney, James Smith, Tim Marvel, Steve Fanelli, Scott Karstens, Andy Chambers, Chad Hitchens, Ben Brace, and Ashley - Exemplary Performance Citation

The Exemplary Performance Citation is given to those persons who as a group responded to an incident. Those awarded are responders who demonstrated exceptional police work at a specific incident, during a coordinated action, investigation or service. They must display consistent excellence in teamwork carrying out the team's mission. Officers and Telecommunicators were honored for their respective efforts during a stabbing incident.

The individuals receiving these awards and commendations were nominated by a peer or supervisor for their outstanding service.
