Seen and heard in Denzel Washington’s recent film “The Great Debaters,” the Carolina Chocolate Drops have made a name for themselves reinvigorating age-old tunes with contemporary energy and style. Carrying on the rich tradition of fiddle and banjo music in Carolina 's Piedmont region, the trio was mentored by Mebane , NC , native Joe Thompson, said to be the last living black traditional string band player. A musical heritage that runs as deeply and fluidly as the many rivers and streams that traverse the North Carolina landscape, this band is “The hottest thing to hit the old-time music community in decades.” – NPR’s “Weekend Edition”
