Great Big Sea is a force of nature, just like the maritime environment that inspired their name.
Their sound has been called “Celtic rock” or “aggressive folk,” a mix of acoustic and electric guitars, and the mandolin, bodhran, fiddle, bagpipes, and concertina of their Scots/Irish roots. However, it is the seafaring traditions of their Newfoundland home that provides this Canadian band with its greatest inspiration. Great Big Sea performs with a raucous energy that lifts audiences to their feet, stomping and clapping their hands to a sound that is catching the world by storm.
