Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey
Pepsi Ice Center
Summary:
This is a seasonal position in the Pepsi Ice Center and is under the direct supervision of the Assistant Manager/Skating or Hockey and under the general supervision of the Ice Center Manager. The purpose of this position is to provide safe and effective instruction to the program participants. Employees in this classification will represent the Pepsi Ice Center in a professional manner, while providing instruction to the program’s participants for enjoyable and appropriate leisure activity at the appropriate fitness level.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Implement course/activity plans that utilize safe and proper form, technique, and progression, as well as positive evaluation practices of all participants. Instructors need to conduct participant evaluations and surveys each session.
2. Be skilled and knowledgeable in the program area with which you will be instructing, while executing reputable practices and principles from within the specific discipline or program.
3. Monitor participants for appropriate safety and adjust teaching to accommodate various levels.
4. Ensure safety of patrons in the facility and be prepared to take charge in an emergency situation if necessary. Report any emergencies to the Supervisor/Manager immediately.
5. Maintain records of class attendance and report data to immediate supervisor.
6. Maintain positive working relationship with immediate supervisor, Pepsi Ice Center co-workers and all patrons of the facility.
7. Provide a positive and enjoyable environment for class participants while interacting in a pleasant and professional manner.
8. Maintain a safe and clean program area.
9. Assume full responsibility of program area and equipment during class time, ensuring that equipment is stored neatly in a proper place, doors locked, and any keys returned.
10. Perform regular checks of all program equipment for quality and safety, while reporting immediately any concerns about equipment, or recommendations for repair or replacement, to your immediate supervisor.
11. Enforce all program policies and procedures.
12. Attend regularly schedule staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
13. Must be positive, energetic, enthusiastic, and motivational. Must enjoy contact with the public, and consistently remember that first impressions are important with every person contact.
14. Must be able to work efficiently, compassionately, and with empathy for those who have special needs and requirements due to age or other cognitive or physical disability.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications – Level 1
1. Must be at least 16 years of age.
2. One-two years of experience in the specific program area; work related or program related.
3. Ability to perform continuous physical activity.
4. Must communicate effectively orally in one-on-one and in group settings.
5. Must be able to effectively communicate with the public and disseminate information with confidence.
Salary: $8.00 - $12.00 per hour
*$9.00 – $13.00 per hour range is proposed to begin July 1, 2009, but is subject
to City Council approval in April 2009
