Basic Function:
Miscellaneous Technical Assistant
Nature of Work:
A position responsible for the day to day activities both in an office environment and in the field. Involves duties of a repetitive nature and special assignments or projects.
Work involves greeting the public through various functions, data entry, completion and maintenance of various departmental records, reports, inspection and investigations for violations.
Examples of Work:
The Miscellaneous Technical Assistant may be called upon to do any of the following: (These examples do not include all of the skills and/or knowledge which may be required; no do they cover all of the specific duties which the employee may be expected to perform.)
1. Provide information to the public concerning departmental activities and programs; search departmental and agency records and reports to secure needed information; make determinations, resolve complaints, and validate information.
2. Assist the public in completing departmental forms requiring knowledge of departmental rules and regulations; prepare departmental correspondence, letters, notices, and reports by use of electronic equipment; perform a variety of office/record keeping tasks.

2. Ability to adapt to changing situations and/or priorities.
3. Ability to undertake minor administrative duties upon own initiative.
4. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions of a moderately complex nature.
5. Ability to learn tasks quickly and adhere to prescribed departmental routines and procedures.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, tenants, agencies, contractors, and the general public.
7. Ability to use a computer for storing and retrieving data, generating reports, and word processing.
Qualifications:
1. Education – Graduation from high school supplemented by college level courses in modern office procedures, sociology, psychology. Experience in public relations, an office environment, or any combination of training and experience that provides the above knowledge, ability, and skills.
2. Knowledge of City of Bloomington streets.
3. Knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic.
4. Knowledge of modern office equipment and maintenance.
5. Knowledge of office practices, office equipment, and basic principles of modern public office administration.
6. Knowledge of current computer and/or electronic systems, techniques and requirements being utilized for specific applications in the department.
7. Knowledge of imaging equipment and software.
8. Knowledge of accounting and statistical methods and practices. |
