The Bloomington Public Works Department heads service delivery and long-term planning in areas that include sewers, storm water management, streets, sidewalks, street lighting, traffic engineering, refuse and maintenance of City-owned equipment.
Public Works is organized into four divisions:
Engineering Division: Plans and helps oversee projects. Collaborates with the Community Development Department to issue various permits and review and oversee construction projects such as subdivision construction.
Fleet Management Division: Performs maintenance and repair on City vehicles and other equipment.
Solid Waste Division: Handles garbage, recycling, bulk, brush and leaf collection. Sweeps streets. Maintains alleys.
Streets & Sewers Division: Enacts repairs, often on a smaller scale, while helping oversee larger scale projects that are performed by contractors.
Master Planning: At times, the Department creates long-range plans, including "Master Plans," and at other times it assists specialists hired by the City Council to create Master Plans. Click here on or the image at left for our master plan guide.
