Fleet Management is the most low-profile division of Bloomington Public Works, because its work does not directly involve the general public. Located at 336 S. Main Street by the viaduct, it is all but invisible for those who do not know of the division.
That said, Fleet is invaluable to the Department, other departments and the city as a whole.
Fleet keeps City vehicles running. That includes police cars, fire trucks and refuse equipment. During snow emergencies, Fleet has personnel on hand to keep the plows moving. Fleet systematically monitors maintenance and undertakes repairs on more than 500 pieces of equipment under a dozen employees.
It also oversees purchase of vehicles and purchase of fuel for the City fleet.
Using seven highly trained mechanics, Fleet completes almost all repairs in-house.
