Description

The Citizens Beautification Committee serves as an advisory body to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and other city officials in developing plans for projects involving City beautification. The primary purpose of the Committee is to “recommend to the City Council all programs of any description or variety calculated to enhance the appearance of the City of Bloomington, including but not limited to recommendations for priorities of City action, and changes in both the Bloomington city code and other ordinances adopted by the City Council.”

The Committee consists of twelve (12) persons appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council. Terms of members shall be four (4) years in duration on a staggered basis.

History
The Citizens Beautification Committee was created by ordinance on April 23, 1973 (and amended on October 23, 1984), which indicated “it is in the best interest of all citizens of Bloomington to enhance the appearance of the City.” The Citizens Beautification Committee was formed “as a reasonable means by which aesthetic improvements to the City may be facilitated.”
