NOTICE: Intent to Burn - Tipton Park

City of Bloomington, Parks and Recreation  Department, intends to conduct a prescribed burn as part of restoration, reclamation, and enhancement of activities associated with Tipton Park.

WHO: City of Bloomington
Parks and Recreation Department
115. E. Washington
Bloomington, IL 61701
309-434-2260

WHAT: Prescribed Burn

WHEN: November 15th, 2009 to April 15th, 2010
Variable due to weather conditions.  Burning was not done last year due to weather.  Actual burning is completed in two or three days.

WHERE: Tipton Park, bordered by GE Road, College Ave., Airport Road, and Tipton Trails Subdivision.

WHY?
The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department is restoring the site with plant communities indigenous to the region.  Prescribed fire is an important restoration, reclamation and enhancement tool for improving ecological conditions of important plant communities in the Midwest.  Ecologically, fire can inhibit the growth of low quality native invasive weeds while it stimulates the growth and production of high quality native plants.  While the blackened earth may appear unsightly for a few weeks after the burn, the site will green up quickly in the Spring.

If you have any health problems that may be exacerbated by the smoke generated from the burn and you would like us to notify you the day of the burn, please mail in the bottom of this form or send email to parks@cityblm.org.
