Karen Schmidt
Karen has served Ward 6 since 1999. She and her husband, John Elterich, live in the East Grove Street Historic District in Dimmitt’s Grove with their two sons, Jacob and Jonas.
She serves as University Librarian at Illinois Wesleyan University, and holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Indiana University and a Ph.D from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she worked for more than 20 years.
Karen’s primary council interests are in neighborhoods, historic preservation, creative planning and budgeting issues.
