Stephen F. Stockton was elected Mayor in April of 2005 and was sworn into office on May 1, 2006. He took early retirement from State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company in 2004, after more than 31 years of service, with 22 years in senior management. He has been responsible for corporate-wide administrative, research, and strategic planning functions, including facility operations, construction, purchasing, communications/networks, security, international affairs, consulting, customer and industry research and long-range planning. He also represented State Farm on various industry groups, including the steering committee for Partners for Child Passenger Safety Project, and the board of the Highway Loss Data Institute, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Mayor Stockton was raised in Bloomington-Normal, and returned to the community after his university education. He received his B.S.B.A., and MBA., and Juris Doctor Degrees from Northwestern University. He is also a C.P.A., C.P.C.U., and C.L.U. He is licensed to practice law in Illinois. He has been active in numerous civic organizations and committees at the local, county and state level, including chair of the Governor’s Business Committee for High-speed Rail, and as the public member of the McLean County Emergency Telephone System Board. For Bloomington, he has served on one or more commissions for 29 consecutive years, including the Liquor Commission, Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, and the Downtown Bloomington Commission. He is a past president of Bloomington Unlimited and was chair of the BroMenn Foundation Board. Mayor Stockton and his wife, Linda, have three adult children and three granddaughters.
