Swim Lessons
Swim Lessons
The Bloomington Parks & Recreation Department offers group and private swim lessons to children as young as 6 months of age. The American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program is used for our lessons. It’s a progressive system where students move at their own pace through a series of levels or stations. Private lessons are also available.
Swim Lesson Testing Days
In an effort to make the first day of swim lessons run more smoothly, we are implementing
a testing day and highly recommending that ALL children attend testing day. Those
attending will be assigned a class and go straight to that class on the first day, rather than
spending time that day figuring out in which level they belong.
CLASS CANCELLATIONS
Call the Hot-Line at 434-2386 for
Swim
lesson cancellations. Cancellations
will
be
made only in the event
of severe
weather. Illinois
weather
changes
quickly
so classes will be
cancelled
approximately
15 minutes
before each class starts. Cancel-
lations
for the entire morning of
swim
lessons are
rarely made. Any class
cancellations will be made up on Fridays.
Children need only attend the testing day prior to their FIRST session of swim lessons. (We realize the testing dates may not be convenient for everyone. We will test the first day of classes for those unable to attend the testing day). To verify our records, we ask that returning participants bring their most recent pass cards to the first day of swim lessons. We will do our best to log your child’s progress through our program.
Testing will only take 5 - 10 minutes, so participants may come at any time during the listed testing day times. Please attend testing day at the location where you will actually take the class. Adult and Parent/Child participants DO NOT need to attend testing day.
