Speedskating at the Pepsi Ice Center!

U.S. Speedskating Fast Fact:

  • General:  Speedskating in the United States is sanctioned by the non-profit organization, US Speedskating, based at the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns, Utah.  US Speedskating is recognized by the Untied States Olympic Committee and the International Skating Union as the governing body for the sport of speedskating in the United States.
  • Type of Racing:  Short Track is raced “pack style” on an international-sized hockey rink.  Short Track made its official Olympic debut at the 1992 Winter Games, having been a demonstration sport in 1988.  It is contested in an indoor rink on a 111-meter oval track – an international-size hockey rink (30X60 meters).  Long Track is raced two competitors at a time on a 400-meter oval track.  Team Pursuit:  Each country has one team of three skaters who skate a single event, with the fastest time winning.  Long Track has been an Olympic event for men since 1924, with the women’s event joining in at the 1960 Winter Games.  Today’s athletes reach speeds in excess of 40 mph.
  • Types of Venues:  Indoor rinks, indoor and outdoor ovals.
  • Broadcast Reach:  US Speedskating events are seen on a live or tape-delay basis in more than 25 countries, with a potential audience of more than 150 million viewers.  The races are broadcast in 10 different languages.

Speedskating Practice Times at the Pepsi Ice Center

Please note schedules are subject to change without prior notice.

Requirements:
Please sign in and pay at Guest Services prior to stepping on the ice.  With no exceptions all skaters must wear full speedskating safety gear before stepping on the ice. For safety reasons, all your water bottles and windbreakers will be kept in the center ice in a bucket. All pads must be removed from ice and returned to storage area 10 minutes prior to ending time.

Private Coaching during Practice Times:
Please note that if a person has been hired (will receive payment for coaching services) to coach during a practice time, that coach must submit coaching insurance papers to the Pepsi Ice Center prior to coaching. Coaches must sign in at the front desk prior to stepping on the ice. Also, the coach will only pay our $4.00 coaching fee for the ice time.
