  • Date: 08/20/2019 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

A community meet-and-greet with the finalists for Bloomington’s Chief of Police position has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 20 from 6-7:30 pm at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts. The final candidates are, alphabetically, William Colbrook and Dan Donath.

William Colbrook serves as Parkland College’s Police Chief, is a retired Illinois State Police Captain, and began his law enforcement career in Pontiac, IL. Assistant Chief Dan Donath is currently splitting the duties of Interim Bloomington Police Chief. He has served in a variety of roles with BPD and began his career with the department in 1994.

The Police Chief recruitment process began earlier this summer and has included a community forum hosted by the Public Safety and Community Relations Board and interviews by a selection committee made up of, alphabetically: City Manager Tim Gleason; U.S. Marshal for the Central District of Illinois Brendan Heffner; City of Bloomington Economic Development Director Melissa Hon; McLean County State’s Attorney Don Knapp; Public Safety and Community Relations Board Chairman Art Taylor; and Deputy City Manager Billy Tyus.

The public is encouraged to attend this open house style meet-and-greet and provide input. It is anticipated City Manager Gleason will announce his final selection in late August or early September.
