City to Hold Public Meeting Regarding IDOT's Proposed Rt. 9 Changes

The Illinois Department of Transportation has requested formal consent from the City of Bloomington on the inclusion of bike lanes along significant portions of Illinois Rt. 9 and the associated removal of on-street parking in some areas. As such, the City will hold a meeting on Thursday, July 11 from 4:30-6:30 pm at City Hall to allow for public input on IDOT’s proposed changes.

Based on IDOT’s preliminary plan set and aerial information, the City estimates approximately 17,850 feet of additional bike lanes and a net loss of 226 parking spaces associated with the state’s proposed project. Rt. 9 is a state route, and while the state requests consent from the City, it is not necessary for the project to proceed.

All are invited to attend the public meeting and offer input. Written comments may also be submitted to This is the second public meeting on this topic, the first being held by IDOT in April.
