Bloomington Streets

The City of Bloomington created this web page to focus primarily on upcoming street/sidewalk projects funded through Local Motor Fuel Tax (LMFT). This is in addition to signage, flyers, social media posts, and press releases the City will provide in order to keep the public informed about street maintenance projects in the City. The revenue generated by the now eight-cent LMFT, and one-quarter of one percent of the Home Rule Sales Tax, is kept separate in a special fund that can only be utilized for this work.

Local Motor Fuel Tax and Home Rule Sales Tax collected in FY2020 to date total $5,288,920. Expenditures total $4,021,669. Please note, there is a time lag between when LMFT is collected and when it is reported.

Market, Howard to Roosevelt

  • Underground utility castings have been removed for milling operations
  • New sidewalk ramps, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and driveway approach installation has begun at various locations

Gettysburg, Empire to Toddmull

  • Asphalt surface installation has been completed

Mulberry, Howard to Catherine

  • Underground utility castings have been removed for milling operations

Catherine, Locust to Market

  • All curb and gutter has been removed and replaced for milling operations

Mason, Mulberry to Monroe

  • Underground utility castings have been removed for milling operations
  • Milling operations have been completed from Market to Monroe

Mason, Washington to Jefferson

  • Underground utility castings have been removed for milling operations
  • Milling operations have been completed

Broadmoor, Oakland to Lincoln

  • All sidewalk ramps have been removed and replacement has been completed.

Milling is removing the asphalt surface.
Leveling binder provides structural stability between the rock base and the final surface. This is the last step before installing the final surface. 
Resurfacing is the final step in the process where new asphalt is installed.

2019 Roadwork Wrap-Up
At the Committee of the Whole meeting on November 18, 2019, Public Works provided a brief presentation to recap asphalt and concrete roadwork performed by City employees and contractors throughout 2019. This presentation provides an opportunity to show Council and the public the results of the various infrastructure programs and to recognize the people who contributed to the programs.
