Assistant Chief Promotion - Tim McCoy

Please congratulate Lieutenant Tim McCoy on his newest promotion to Assistant Chief of Operations!

Assistant Chief Tim McCoy started his career as a patrol officer at the Bloomington PD in 1994. While on patrol, he was a Field Training Officer (FTO) and a firearms instructor. In 2000, he was selected to be a detective in the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) and was also selected on to be on our Special Weapons and Tactics team (SWAT) team. After three years in CID, he was selected to the Vice Unit.

He decided to return to patrol in 2005 and was promoted to a Patrol Sergeant in 2007. He served as a FTO Supervisor, K9 Supervisor, and continued to be a firearms instructor.

In 2013, he was promoted to lieutenant and was the commander of second shift patrol. He also was the commander of the SWAT team, the Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU), and of Firearms Training.

In 2018, he was selected to be the Lieutenant of the Training Division. A few months later he was then selected to be the commander over the Criminal Investigation Division until his recent promotion to Assistant Chief of Operations.
