Julie Emig was elected to represent the citizens of Ward 4 in 2019.  Prior to joining the City Council, Julie served as a Rotary Youth Exchange Officer, and she currently serves on the Boards of BCAI School of Arts and the Ecology Action Center.  Julie graduated from the Multicultural Leadership Program in 2018. 

Julie grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and, after living on the East Coast for 20 years, returned to the Midwest in 2011.  Julie is currently the Executive Director of the Multicultural Leadership Program, a local nonprofit that provides an intense professional leadership development curriculum for current and potential leaders to improve their knowledge, leadership skills, and civic engagement. Before Julie joined MCLP, she was an instructional assistant professor at Illinois State University and has worked for the past 25 years as a teacher, leader, and staff developer for schools and public institutions across the country. Julie has a doctorate in literacy education, school administrator certification, and was the associate director of a 20 million dollar grant-funded research project from the Institute for Education Sciences.  Julie lives with her spouse, Mary, and their daughter, Charlotte, in the White Place National Historic District.
